I should be blind, but I am not. I read all 4 of the Twilight books over the weekend. I really liked the books, maybe as much as the HP series. Gah! Now I am going to have to find some Twilight fanfic too. SO little time, so much to read.

During the hurricane, the neighbors' granddaughter and her beau (haha) and her/their many small sprogs came to stay... and they've never left. The guy is a real winner. Tattoos all over both arms down to the wrists, which isn't a big deal, except that one of the tattoos on his forearm is a large SWASTIKA! Oh, the hotness is just blinding!

I hear that they are leeching of the grands because they 'want to buy a house'. Sha right. One, you need a job to be able to buy a house, and two, supporting a lazy girlfriend and her 3yo, 2yo, 9mo and the currently developing spawn is going to take a really 'good' job, and I don't think Swastika man is the type who gets the good jobs if you get my meaning.

I hear a trainwreck!

I have been really, really sick. I don't know if it's because the kids started school a few weeks ago and we are exposed to new stuff or what. Maybe I got the germs off the handle of the big paper cutter in the school workroom. At any rate, I'm at 7 days. I thought I was getting better yesterday and went out shopping for a new kitchen table with dh and ds. After a while (a short while) I was tired and thought I could eat. Big mistake. We ate at Pappasito's, and the food was great, but it sat in my stomach for eight hours until I threw up finally. I'm down 6 pounds, which I had to spare, but I am just so tired of being sick. This is the longest I have ever been afflicted. Probably a karmic bitch slap for all the times I bragged that I rarely get sick.

I am feeling better today. I am actually able to look at food without gagging, which is a sure sign of improvement. I wish I had some mashed potatoes with fried cabbage. Yeah, now I can tell I am getting better : )

The kids went back to school today (thank God). They both had a good day, which is nice. They have to have indoor recess still because the hurricane blew an arseload of mosquitoes from the coast. We can go all summer without seeing mosquitoes, so this really blows. But the peace and quiet has returned... hooray!!

I am feeling very uneasy about the reports of deaths in the wake of Hurricane Ike. The news is saying only a handful of people died, but I am hearing reports from a guy on a search and recovery team who says there were hundreds of bodies. Why was there a media blackout for days of Galveston's west end and the Bolivar Peninsula? Did they not want us to see the bodies in the bay? What about the missing people? There are 663 people on a missing list that is circulating on the internet. Why is there no mention of this?

I am not naive. I do not believe our government has our best interest at heart. But I have to wonder how many people are keeping this information quiet to save their jobs?

If half of Galveston's 40000 residents stayed, and there were fewer than 4000 rescues and fewer than 1000 refugees ... I am not getting the math here.

And what of those at Bolivar Point, Crystal Beach, Gilchrist? Those places were decimated. The homes are nothing but pieces of lumber now. There must be bodies under that rubble.

The conspiracy theorist in me feels like this hurricane was more powerful than was reported. The waters rose a full 20 hours before they should have, cutting off the escape routes for tens of thousands or people in mandatory evac zones.

The winds were so destructive -- even people who have lived through many hurricanes say this storm was closer to a cat 5 in terms of the damage caused.

We got rear-ended yesterday afternoon. It wasn't fun. There was a red Jeep behind us that was acting like it was in a big hurry, and my husband and I both commented about it. This area has been under construction for over a year, so pretty much everyone knows that the traffic is very start and stop. Well, we moved up a couple of car-lengths, and the impatient guy took off from back where he was and just didn't stop. He slammed right into the back of us, and we were all jarred pretty hard---none of us has ever been in an accident before. My husband jumped out of the truck and started yelling at the guy. I was getting scared because I was sure my husband was going to punch the little punk. I heard him yell, 'I need to know what the fuck your problem is. You just hit me and I've got my kids in the fucking car.'

The guy admitted he was in a hurry, so that just pissed dh off even more. We pulled off into the parking lot of a drug store and waited for the police to show up to file a report. It was 99 degrees outside, and the police only took 38 minutes to show up. Niiiice. Glad it wasn't an emergency!

So last night my back started hurting and just kept getting worse. It hurt bad enough that I couldn't sleep well, but it seems to be a bit better today, so I am hoping it stays that way. I will post a picture of the damage to the back of our Expedition if I remember. It's not that bad---only about $2000 worth of damage, but I was surprised that it jarred us so much over a 5" crack.

So, now I feel stiff and sore, and then I am reading some stuff about TPP and its admins that makes me feel even more like shit. I am a very nice person, and I go out of my way to be nice, helpful and supportive, even if I don't care for the story or I am not crazy about the pairing. I never interfere with an author's writing or their style because I don't feel it's my place, but to read what people are saying just makes me wonder why I bother. I know the former admin who posted it is probably saying these things just to start a dialogue, but I have to admit that I am hurt that her need to bash TPP and start a bandwagon of insults and negative comments from others who have a similar agenda has painted us all at TPP in a certain way.
